تَعْرِيفُ التَّجْوِيد - Definition of Tajweed

لُغَةً (Linguistically): التَّحْسِينُ وَالإِتْقَان - Beautification and perfection


اصْطِلاحًا (Technically): إِعْطَاءُ كُلِّ حَرْفٍ حَقَّهُ وَمُسْتَحَقَّهُ مِنَ الصِّفَاتِ وَالمَخَارِجِ

Giving each letter its due right regarding its characteristics and articulation points.

حُكْمُ تَعَلُّمِ التَّجْوِيد - Ruling on Learning Tajweed
قَالَ اللهُ تَعَالَى: ﴿وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا﴾
Surah Al-Muzzammil (73:4) - "And recite the Quran with measured recitation."

حُكْمُهُ: تَعَلُّمُ التَّجْوِيدِ فَرْضُ كِفَايَة، وَالعَمَلُ بِهِ فَرْضُ عَيْن عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ وَمُسْلِمَة

Learning the theory of Tajweed is Fard Kifayah (collective obligation), while applying it when reciting is Fard 'Ayn (individual obligation) on every Muslim.

فَضْلُ تِلاوَةِ القُرْآن - Virtues of Reciting Quran
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: «خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ»
Sahih Al-Bukhari (5027) - "The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: «الْمَاهِرُ بِالْقُرْآنِ مَعَ السَّفَرَةِ الْكِرَامِ الْبَرَرَة»
Sahih Muslim (798) - "The one who is proficient with the Quran will be with the noble, righteous scribes (angels)."
