While not part of the Hajj or Umrah rituals, visiting Madinah and the Prophet's Mosque is a highly emphasized Sunnah. The Prophet ﷺ said:
"One prayer in my mosque is better than one thousand prayers elsewhere, except for Masjid al-Haram."
— Sahih Bukhari & Muslim
You may visit Madinah before or after Hajj. Many pilgrims visit for 8 days (to pray 40 prayers in congregation at the Prophet's Mosque).
The Prophet ﷺ said: "The area between my house and my pulpit is a garden from the gardens of Paradise."
This blessed area has green carpets and is extremely crowded. Access requires booking via the Nusuk app.

Men have more availability. Women have specific hours (often morning and late night).
Slots release in batches. Check frequently during off-peak hours.
After visiting the Rawdah, proceed to the golden grille to greet the Prophet ﷺ.

Many scholars recommend staying 8 days in Madinah to achieve 40 consecutive prayers in Masjid Nabawi:
"Whoever prays forty prayers in my mosque, not missing a single prayer, will have freedom from the Fire written for him."
