⭐ The First Verses Revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Verses 1-5 were the very first words of the Quran revealed in the Cave of Hira.
Iqra' bismi rabbikal-ladhee khalaq
Read in the name of your Lord who created,
Khalaqal-insaana min 'alaq
Created man from a clinging substance.
Iqra' wa rabbukal-akram
Read, and your Lord is the Most Generous,
Alladhee 'allama bil-qalam
Who taught by the pen,
'Allamal-insaana maa lam ya'lam
Taught man that which he knew not.
Kallaa innal-insaana layatghaa
No! Indeed, man transgresses,
Ar-ra-aahus-taghnaa
Because he sees himself self-sufficient.
Inna ilaa rabbikar-ruj'aa
Indeed, to your Lord is the return.
Ara-aytal-ladhee yanhaa
Have you seen the one who forbids,
'Abdan idhaa sallaa
A servant when he prays?
Ara-ayta in kaana 'alal-hudaa
Have you seen if he is upon guidance,
Aw amara bit-taqwaa
Or enjoins righteousness?
Ara-ayta in kadhdhaba wa tawallaa
Have you seen if he denies and turns away?
Alam ya'lam bi-annal-laaha yaraa
Does he not know that Allah sees?
Kallaa la-il-lam yantahi lanasfa'am bin-naasiyah
No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock,
Naasiyatin kaadhibatin khaati-ah
A lying, sinning forelock.
Falyad'u naadiyah
Then let him call his associates;
Sanad'uz-zabaaniyah
We will call the angels of Hell.
Kallaa laa tuti'hu wasjud waqtarib
No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩
