١ وَالْعَصْرِ
Wal-'Asr
By time.
وَBy (oath)
الْعَصْرِthe time
٢ إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لَفِى خُسْرٍ
Innal-insaana lafee khusr
Indeed, mankind is in loss.
إِنَّIndeed
الْإِنْسَانَmankind
لَفِىsurely in
خُسْرٍloss
٣ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ
Illal-ladheena aamanu wa 'amilus-saalihaati wa tawaasau bil-haqqi wa tawaasau bis-sabr
Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.
إِلَّاExcept
الَّذِينَthose who
ءَامَنُواbelieved
وَعَمِلُواand did
الصّٰلِحٰتِrighteous deeds
وَتَوَاصَوْاand advised each other
بِالْحَقِّto truth
وَتَوَاصَوْاand advised each other
بِالصَّبْرِto patience
🔑 Four Conditions for Success
- 1. Iman (Faith) - Belief in Allah, His Messenger, and all pillars of faith
- 2. Good Deeds - Acting upon faith with righteous actions
- 3. Advising Truth - Enjoining what is right with others
- 4. Advising Patience - Encouraging steadfastness in difficulty
📖 About This Surah
• Imam Shafi'i said: "If people were to ponder on this Surah alone, it would suffice them."
• Despite being only 3 verses, it contains the complete formula for success in this life and the next.
• The Companions would not part from each other without reciting this Surah.
