١ أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ
Alhaakumut-takaathur
Competition in [worldly] increase diverts you,
٢ حَتَّىٰ زُرْتُمُ الْمَقَابِرَ
Hattaa zurtumul-maqaabir
Until you visit the graveyards.
٣ كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ
Kallaa sawfa ta'lamoon
No! You are going to know.
٤ ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ
Thumma kallaa sawfa ta'lamoon
Then no! You are going to know.
٥ كَلَّا لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عِلْمَ الْيَقِينِ
Kallaa law ta'lamoona 'ilmal-yaqeen
No! If only you knew with knowledge of certainty...
٦ لَتَرَوُنَّ الْجَحِيمَ
Latarawunnal-jaheem
You will surely see the Hellfire.
٧ ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيْنَ الْيَقِينِ
Thumma latarawunnahaa 'aynal-yaqeen
Then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty.
٨ ثُمَّ لَتُسْأَلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ النَّعِيمِ
Thumma latus-alunna yawma-idhin 'anin-na'eem
Then you will surely be asked that Day about the pleasures [you enjoyed].
⭐ Virtue of This Surah
The Prophet ﷺ said: "If the son of Adam had a valley of gold, he would want a second one. And if he had two valleys, he would want a third. Nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust [of the grave]." (Bukhari & Muslim)
📖 About This Surah
• "Takathur" - competing to have more wealth, children, status, possessions.
• This distraction continues until death ("visiting the graves").
• Three levels of certainty mentioned: Knowledge (علم), Sight (عين), Truth (حق).
• We will be questioned about EVERY blessing - even cold water on a hot day!
• The cure: Remember death often, visit graves, reflect on the Hereafter.
